I’m trying to plan leave for the rest of the year. Is there a way to plan to use leave during the week of Christmas to avoid it being paid out on the 11/30 payroll?

Vacation days may be carried over from one calendar year to the next with a maximum rollover cap of 160 hours. Near the end of each calendar year, any hours over 160 will be bought back by AMEWAS, Inc. To determine the annual leave payouts, a process runs after the 11/30 leave accrual has been posted. This process adds the current vacation balance to the individual accrual amounts for 12/15 and 12/31. The 160-hour leave cap is subtracted from that number and employees who have a remainder are automatically paid out on the 12/15 payroll.

We understand some employees intend to take vacation the week between Christmas and New Year’s.  We have allowed those who are interested to take Leave Without Pay (non-exempt) or complete a Leave of Absence application (exempt) to use during that timeframe.  By doing that, you are paid out your leave above 160 hours on 12/15 and when you take the time off from Christmas to New Year’s, you basically have been paid for it in advance.  Keep in mind, however, that your paycheck would be less on 15 January.
